Family violence supports available to you

It has been a difficult time for all healthcare workers. At times of stress and high pressure, our relationships and home environment can be impacted. It is important that we look after ourselves during this time.

Family violence increases during times of emergency. It occurs in many different relationships, including between intimate partners, with children or extended family, and older people.

Abuse doesn’t have to involve physical harm to be considered family violence. Family violence happens when one person in a relationship hurts another or makes them feel unsafe. It is a repeated pattern of behaviour.

If you find yourself experiencing family violence, Monash Health has several supports available to you:

  • Counselling – you have access to free and confidential counselling services, including:
  • Flexible work options – Talk to your manager about adjustments that best support your situation.
  • Develop a workplace safety plan – Having a structured plan in place can help you feel safe at work.
  • Take leave – You have 20 days of family violence leave available to you. This leave is confidential and will not appear on your payslip.
  • Consult your People and Culture Business Partner – They can help you navigate your situation at work. You can contact them through the People and Culture advice line on 03 9265 2724.
  • Visit the Family violence webpage – The page contains resources that can help you through your situation. There is also a manager’s guide that outlines available supports.

There is no shame in experiencing family violence. Your safety and wellbeing are our priority, and we are here to support you.
