STAR winners continue to shine at employee forum

At today’s employee forum, Chief Executive Andrew Stripp awarded the STAR Awards for Exceptional Teamwork and Excellence in Research, Teaching, and Innovation.

Exceptional Teamwork

The winner in this category is Sacha Purvis. Sacha is the Nurse Unit Manager in our COVID-19 Vaccination Workforce.

Recently, Sacha has been working as a Nurse Unit Manager at the Dandenong COVID vaccination clinic. She is described by her team as an approachable and inclusive manager.

Sacha is consistently available for team education, promoting a culture where not knowing something isn’t a bad thing, it is a learning opportunity. She puts in extra time to ensure the team feel supported in their role and have the tools to complete their tasks.

This enhances patient safety as employees are more likely to ask for help rather than potentially make a mistake.

Although the vaccination clinic had already been operating for some weeks, the NUM position that Sacha took on was completely new and took a considerable amount of work to establish.
Sacha has continually worked to improve the clinic as the rollout progressed, working alongside both employees and patients to promote positive experiences for everyone.

She has always listened to the ideas and experiences of those working in the clinic, allowing all involved to improve processes at the clinic. This has fostered a culture of teamwork and also created a workplace where individuals feel supported to take on different roles.

Above all, what stands out with Sacha, is her kindness. Whatever the situation, she meets it with empathy and calm.

I hope that this award nomination demonstrates to her that her efforts are recognised appreciated by those around her.

Excellence in Research, Teaching, and Innovation

The winner in this category is Silvana Pignataro. Silvana is the Assistant Deputy Director of Pharmacy for Kingston Pharmacy department. This role includes supporting and developing the clinical pharmacy service across Monash Health.

A key element of ensuring the clinical pharmacy service is meeting the needs of our patients is auditing activity and identifying how the service can be improved.

Silvana has led the development and review of KPIs for clinical pharmacy activity with their integration into the clinical pharmacy services dashboard. She has also led the education program that focuses on how to utilise the dashboard.

Silvana has been instrumental in developing the dashboard. Some steps she has taken include:

  • Identifying the appropriate KPIs and how to extract the data from EMR.
  • Ensuring consistency of documentation across all clinical pharmacy teams.
  • Developing education resources to support training.
  • Producing a simplified report of the data to help identify trends.

As a result of Silvana’s leadership, there has been a significant improvement in the documented clinical ward pharmacy activity. Well done Silvana!

You can nominate a colleague or team at any time by heading to the STAR Portal. For more information on the STAR Program, you can head to the Monash Health COVID-19 website.
