Monash Health Security win big at 2023 OSPAs

After a staggering triple nomination, the Monash Health Security Team have successfully gone all the way and taken out a win at the Australian Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs).

The team took out the award for Outstanding Security Partnership, in conjunction with technology company Siemens, for the work our two organisations have done together in implementing technology solutions across our sites.

“Siemens are responsible for our access control, CCTV, duress alarms and more,” said Steve Bills, Director, Security and Emergency Management.

“It’s a partnership that affects how every single employee at Monash Health gets around our sites.”

The Security Team was very excited to receive an award at this year’s OSPA’s.

The partnership, which has been in place for 15 years, has ensured our Security Officers have the capacity to respond to urgent situations more readily.

“The actual locking down and opening up of some buildings can be done remotely, so our guards don’t need to manually go and lock doors,” Steve said.

“CCTV gives us the proactive ability to watch the screens, and to provide evidence later after the event.

“Because of this, they can spend more time focusing on their response to incidents and codes on sites.”

Steve said being named the winner at the awards ceremony on 19 October was “a bit of a buzz”.

“Siemens technicians work very closely with both our systems team and the operational teams on site, so it’s a recognition of not just the relationship between us both, but the work both teams have done and how they interact,” he said.

As recipients of the award, the Security Team received a commemorative plaque.

Accompanying Steve to the ceremony was Security Operations Manager, Sylvia Lynch, Site Security Supervisor, Rob Symonds, and several of our Security Officers from different sites.

“When we were announced the winner, there was a big cheer, and everyone was very excited about it,” he said.

“Everyone was just tickled pink.”

Congratulations again to the Monash Health Security Team for their outstanding win, and ongoing efforts to ensure our patients, employees and visitors stay safe when visiting Monash Health.
