‘Give me 5’ conversations

As you know, we are asking all people leaders to hold a ‘Give Me 5’ conversation with each of their team members. There is a lot happening externally now that we can’t control, but what we can continue to do is support and engage our people to demonstrate to them how valued they are and to acknowledge individually all the effort that they have put in over recent years.

Here are three further benefits of holding these conversations:

Feedback can motivate

By receiving, and being asked to provide feedback, employees can feel motivated to perform better. Employees like to feel valued and appreciate being asked to provide feedback that can help formulate business decisions. The ‘Give Me 5’ conversation can, and should be, a two-way street.

Feedback can improve performance

Feedback is often mistaken for criticism. However, constructive feedback can help the individual to formulate better decisions to improve and increase performance. Watch our recent Manager Briefing for some tips on how to approach difficult conversations.

Feedback is a tool for continued learning

Invest time in asking and learning about how others experience working within Monash Health. Continued feedback is important across the entire organisation to remain aligned to goals, create strategies, develop processes and services improvements, improve relationships, and much more. Continued learning is the key to improving and it’s important for you as a leader to understand the goals of your team members and support their development to achieve them.
