As we all work through the pandemic, supporting one another has never been more important and there’s no one that understands the pressures of your work more than your colleagues.
Your manager and broader team have experienced the tough times alongside you and are a strong support network.
If you are concerned about your workload, are having difficulty managing your emotions, or are interested in taking leave, make time to speak to your manager who can work through this with you.
Monash Health Call a Psychologist service
Monash Health employees and teams can receive confidential and free emotional support from Monash Health psychologists if they are significantly affected by COVID-19. The Call a Psychologist service can be accessed in person or via teleconferencing. The service is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
To access Call a Psychologist, call 0418 905 414, and a psychologist will return your call to set up a time that works for yourself and/or your team.
Professional peer support networks
Outside of Monash Health, there are many professional peer support networks available for you to use. These groups provide targeted support for clinicians and other professional groups. Many of these networks have been developed to address issues arising from managing and responding to COVID-19.
Some professional peer support networks that are available include:
- Hand n Hand Peer Support Network – publish materials on the shared experiences of COVID-19. These include identifying burnout, compassion fatigue and starting conversations to move forward.
- The Essential Network – an app supporting health professionals to manage life and work through COVID-19. It includes self-assessment, management, and treatment resources.
- Pharmacists’ Support Service– pharmacists, pharmacy interns and students can access peer support over the phone from 8am to 11pm every day on 1300 244 910.
- AMA Victoria Peer Support Service – provides a free telephone support line for doctors by doctors. These are colleagues who understand the pressures of medicine during this time.
It is always the right time to reach out to your colleagues and support others who might be going through a difficult time. If you or someone you are concerned needs to talk to a specialist counsellor please reach out through the Employee Assistance Program on 1300 687 327, for a confidential and free conversation.
For additional resources and advice on accessing peer support networks for you or someone you are concerned about, please visit the Monash Health COVID-19 employee website.
