At last month’s Employee Wellbeing Forum, we heard presentations from guest speakers from Be Well, Smoke-Free and Fitness Passport about vicarious trauma, initiatives to reduce smoking and vaping at Monash Health and the launch of Fitness Passport. Vicarious Trauma presented by Be Well – Psychological Wellbeing Program for Employees
Kirsten Yates, Senior Clinical Psychologist from our Be Well program joined us to further explore vicarious trauma, a popular presentation from our previous Employee Wellbeing Forum held in April.
Kirsten discussed how vicarious trauma can overlap with compassion fatigue, burnout and collective trauma, and shared some practical advice and processes for managing vicarious trauma. If you missed it, you can watch the recording of Kirsten’s vicarious trauma presentation here.

Smoke-Free Project
Sharyn Donald, General Manager, Public Health and Infectious Diseases and Chair of Smoke-Free Committee shared an update about the Smoke-Free Project. Sharyn was also joined by fellow committee members:
- Christopher Sharp – Clinical Pharmacist, Dandenong, Smoke-Free Clinical Project Lead
- JulieAnne Coyle – Speech Pathologist, Dandenong
- Katrina Stevenson – Health Promotion Practitioner and Smoke-free Project Lead, Public Health and Community.
The team shared the work to:
- Create and embed a smoke-free environment
- Reduce employee smoking rates
- Support patients to cease smoking
Sharyn, Christopher, Julie and Katrina talked further about their insights, deliverables in the project and World No Tobacco Day, observed on 31 May.

Fitness Passport
Mia Haynes, Key Account Manager, Fitness Passport, provided an update since launching Fitness Passport for our employees.
