Yesterday, we marked World Mental Health Day with Brad McEwan in conversation with Felicity Ward and Sammy J who led a discussion on kindness, connection and helpful tips to look after your mental health.
Through their own experiences, both in their personal and professional lives, the panel shared how they work towards being vulnerable and authentic, the power of doing kind things for other people, and what they do every day to ensure they check in with themselves and those around them.
The panel had many strong messages, and we’d like to share a couple for you to take away:
- Authenticity: “Work towards living an authentic life, be real, and be yourself – there is freedom and power in this.”
- Kindness: “When you do something nice for other people, it also helps you to feel good.”
- Connection: “Find ways to connect with others to support your mental health, in-person, via text message, over the phone.”
- Action: “Find what helps support your wellbeing – exercise, meditation, taking a break from screens.”
- Support: “To support others in their mental health journey, you need to first look after your own mental health.”
If you missed the event, we encourage you to watch the panel’s thought-provoking and inspiring conversation here.
Please note, the presentation contains discussions related to mental health including anxiety, depression and suicide.
If these topics raise any concerns for you, please know that you are never alone, and there are resources, programs and support services available to help you.

You can register online for a Mental Health Australia Wellbeing Calendar. The Calendar includes a short reflection or task you can do every day this month to look after your mental health and wellbeing.
You’ll also have access to resources and helpful tips to continue to introduce wellbeing into your daily routine. If you would like to download the calendar only, it can also be accessed as a PDF here.
We would also like to thank our partners at Mental Health Australia for helping us facilitate the event!
