World Teachers’ Day, celebrated on Friday 29 October, is a chance to recognise and celebrate the incredible contributions teachers make in our community.
During COVID-19, teachers have had to be adaptive to ensure they can continue to support their students and school communities while maintaining a positive learning environment.
Monash Children’s Hospital School have continued to support children and young adult inpatients and outpatients throughout this challenging and uncertain time by providing educational support during their stay at Monash Children’s Hospital.
Colin Dobson, Principal of Monash Children’s Hospital School, offered some insight into how the school assist the children within our care.
“Monash Children’s Hospital School has the aspiration for the children in our care to develop as competent and confident learners. We aim for them to be secure in their sense of belonging and embracing the principle that they will not be defined by their health condition but by their strength of character, ability and capacity.”
“There is always a special bond that is developed between teacher and child, often remembered years later as the student recalls the lasting impact of their teachers. In this way, teachers hold a very privileged position, one that comes with great responsibility. Our employees, both teaching and non-teaching, are aware of this and commit themselves to providing the best education for all students in our care.”
Dr Cathy McAdam, Head of Paediatric General Medicine and Monash Children’s Hospital School Council President, reflected on the importance of celebrating World Teachers’ Day.
“Most people recall a teacher who made a significant difference in their life. The feedback we get from the children and families who access the Monash Children’s Hospital School (MCHS) whilst in our care is always positive. We celebrate and appreciate the world-class teachers at MCHS on World Teachers’ Day 2021. You keep our young people connected to their education during a critical period of their lives.”
Today we acknowledge the excellent work of the Monash Children’s Hospital School and celebrate the teaching team who provide education and support to children and young adults in our care.
