International Day of People with Disability 2023
A discussion with Dr Dinesh Palipana OAM, 2pm, Wednesday 29 November 2023
We are committed to removing barriers that prevent our patients, employees, volunteers, community and visitors from being fully included in healthcare.
Join us as we celebrate International Day of People with Disability. Hear how we’re tracking on our newly launched Disability Strategy and Action Plan, and from Dr Dinesh Palipana, an emergency doctor at Gold Coast University Hospital.
Halfway through medical school, Dinesh Palipana was involved in a horrific car accident that left him with quadriplegia, affecting the use of his fingers and arms, and paralysing him below the chest.
Despite this, Dinesh remained determined to fulfil his dream of working in medicine and returned to his studies to become the first quadriplegic medical intern in Queensland and the second person to graduate medical school with quadriplegia in Australia.
Join us to hear Dinesh’s story about navigating the healthcare system as both a patient and an employee with disability, and how we can allow our people and organisations to reach their full potential.
