Monash Health employees and other health professionals will again have access to free Level 1 training in Elder Abuse from April 2020.
The Level 1 training, which is about responding and recognising suspected cases of elder abuse, equates to 3 CPD hours.
The interactive workshop is designed to assist workers more confidently:
- recognise elder abuse – the risk factors, types and signs
- respond sensitively to older people at risk of, or experiencing elder abuse and their carers/family
- know the types of services available and make appropriate referrals.
The training is designed for hospital and community services staff, including allied health, nursing and medical personnel, assessment workers, care coordinators, case managers, mental health workers and community support staff. Training is provided by the Bouverie Centre, in conjunction with Monash Health.
There is a prerequisite: this workshop builds on the Victorian Government’s elder abuse prevention online training module – http://elderabuseprevention.e3learning.com.au. It is recommended that participants complete the online training prior to attending the Level 1 training.
