From Monday 14 February, our music therapists will perform live on the grand piano at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton.
These sessions are an opportunity to create a calming space for employees to take a moment and enhance the auditory environment of our workplace, to support employees during COVID-19.
We encourage you to stop by and listen to a session – take your break by the piano, or just enjoy live music as you move through the building.
Music therapy is a research-based practice and profession, using music to actively support individuals to improve their health, wellbeing, and functioning. Listening to music helps strengthen connections and brings people together in a shared listening experience.

Our music therapists at Monash Health
The music therapy team at Monash Health has 12 music therapists who work across the lifespan at Monash Children’s Hospital, Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong, Kingston, Casey and within the community.
Our music therapists incorporate a variety of music-making methods as part of a therapeutic relationship with patients and their families, including singing, song writing, playing instruments, and actively listening to music.
Music offers an accessible way for our patients to connect, communicate, and maintain their identity amongst change and uncertainty. For our patients, music can be a significant part of their recovery and their journey to better health and ongoing wellbeing.
At this time, the opening of the grand piano is limited to our music therapists performing in these sessions. We recognise that many employees are accomplished musicians and are looking forward to playing the grand piano again.
Keep an eye out for more updates about the grand piano, and opportunities to listen to live music at other sites.
This initiative is supported by the Victorian Government’s Department of Health Be Well Be Safe Program, providing increased health and wellbeing support for healthcare workers during COVID-19.
