Just like breathing, being able to go to the bathroom is something we take as a given until it’s not.
For those with severe bowel issues, sometimes the only solution is to surgically create a stoma – an opening on the abdomen connected to either the digestive or urinary system – to remove bodily waste when their bodies can no longer do it themselves.
This National Stomal Therapy Week, we want to take the time to acknowledge and celebrate our community of Ostomates and their support networks.
At Monash Health, our Stomal Therapists are part of a multi-disciplinary team that proudly supports both new and existing Ostomates as they navigate their unique ostomy journeys.
Visit our pop-up display table at Monash Medical Centre’s General Meeting Area, showcasing stoma supplies, models, and information booklets for both employees, patients and visitors.
We’ll also provide blitz stoma education on participating wards, refreshing nurses on stoma care.
Let’s normalise discussions about stoma and bowel functions, creating an open and supportive environment.
Join us throughout the week, say hi to our team, and be part of the celebration!
