Congratulations to our Victorian Public Healthcare Awards 2023 finalists and winners! The evening celebrated excellence in healthcare, with Monash Health teams recognised as finalists across four categories for outstanding achievements and bringing home the honours in two.
Accepting the award for Excellence in Aged Care were the Monash Health Residential Aged Care team for a customised, residential care-specific Prevention of Occupational Violence and Aggression (POVA) training package. Jill Jukes – General Manager Residential Care, and Cameron Duncan – Director Clinical Operations Residential Care, were present to receive the award.
Accepting the award for Health Service Partnership of the Year were Monash Health, Alfred Health, Better Health Network, Peninsula Health and South Eastern Primary Health Network for leading the way in building a collaborative model that encompasses acute, primary, and community healthcare partners. Dipak Sanghvi – Chair Monash Health Board, and A/Prof Michael Franco – Interim Executive Director Digital Health, accepted the award on behalf of Monash Health.
Finalists in Celebrating Innovation in Healthcare were Monash Health’s community-based chronic disease Nurse Practitioners and Senior Medical Consultants for reviewing patients and engaging them in the option to receive safe care at home.
Finalists in Creating a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Health System were Monash Health’s Pathology Stewardship and Electronic Medical Record Optimisation team for dramatically reducing unnecessary blood tests for sustainability purposes and better patient experience.
At the ceremony, the dedication and commitment of our healthcare professionals shone through. The accolades symbolise the drive for excellence in patient care through innovation, collaboration and unwavering teamwork.
Acting Chief Executive Martin Keogh has commended the teams’ exceptional efforts, “These awards acknowledge and celebrate the best of us and our collective dedication toward our community. I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Monash Health Residential Aged Care team and our Health Service Partnership and our finalists for innovation and sustainability.

These awards are not just a recognition of our achievements; they are a celebration and testament to the compassion, kindness and kinship that runs throughout our healthcare family,” said Martin.
A/Prof Franco agreed the awards symbolise our broader purpose, “Our teams’ success at the awards serves as a daily reminder of the exceptional care Monash Health provides to our community. They are not just a singular achievement but an ongoing standard we hold ourselves to for excellence in healthcare. I was so proud to stand with our people at such a special moment.”
The Awards are an annual celebration of the achievements of our healthcare workers and our service to the community. The categories reflect Victoria’s healthcare priorities, and the ability of our sector to drive change and improve health outcomes consistently.
