Meet David – our first STAR Award winner for Quarter 2 2021

At today’s employee forum, Acting Chief Executive Martin Keogh presented our first STAR Award for Quarter 2 2021. The winner for Excellence in Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing is David Nguyen.

David is a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Health and Safety Representative (HSR) on Ward 54. He is committed to maintaining safety within the ward environment and engages new methods to continue to improve.

Late last year, David successfully installed USB led lights on our EMR devices to improve the lighting for team members at night. He is assisting his manager in the clear corridor project, a long-term strategy that looks at the ward infrastructure and storage areas.

Recently on the ward, there was a situation which involved a manual handling risk with a bariatric patient. The team was exploring resources to support and improve their skills to safely mobilise the patients.

On his day off, David had researched available learning tools and sent through educational learning videos and LATTE training for manual handling to the team.

David was proactive and responded quickly to the risk. He truly went above and beyond what was expected of him.

David consistently demonstrates his commitment within his role as the elected HSR for the Neuroscience Ward through his highly-detailed risk assessments, which always have a solution focused on supporting our team and our patients.

We also spoke to David last year about his role as a HSR and what motivates him. Thank you for continuing to keep the ward, the team and our patients safe David!

If you know someone who is continuing to improve safety on your ward or in your area, nominate them for a STAR Award today! You can head the STAR Portal to submit a nomination or visit the Monash Health COVID-19 website for more information on our STAR Program.
