Meet our final STAR winners for Quarter 2 2021

We are pleased to announce our final STAR Award winners for Quarter 2 2021. Our STAR Program recognises the great work of employees across the organisation. If you know someone who deserves to be recognised, head to the STAR Portal and nominate them today!

Improving Care or Access

The Improving Care or Access category is for an individual, group or team that develop improved ways for patients to access and manage their care.

The winner in this category is Gavin Clifton and the Sonography team. Gavin is an Ultrasound Supervisor.

Our Physiotherapy teams often use medical imaging devices to deliver care to our patients. When COVID struck, the team had to readjust how they delivered their service. As they readjusted their service, they faced the challenge of transporting medical imaging equipment from site to site.

Gavin saw the Physiotherapy team’s challenge and stepped up to help. Gavin has supported the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy team significantly in setting up their transperineal ultrasound service.

Gavin has gone above and beyond his role. He helped move the Physiotherapy team’s Trophon unit between sites and even organised for the Physio team to share the use of the Medical Imaging department’s units at Casey and Moorabbin. This ensured the continuity of excellent patient care.

Without the support of Gavin and the rest of the Sonography and Medical Imaging team, Physiotherapy would not have been able to provide the best care to their patients.

This situation is an excellent example of inter-disciplinary teamwork to ensure patients are seen in a timely manner, with access to the best care.

Well done to Gavin and the entire Sonography team!

Managing Wisely

The Managing Wisely award is for an individual, group or team who actively look for ways to minimise waste and manage our resources wisely.

The winner in this category is the Engineering team at Moorabbin Hospital.

The Engineering team at Moorabbin Hospital shows excellence, pride, and innovation in their work. An example of this is the Renewable Energy Project, which is currently underway.

This project is a joint initiative with the Department of Health, their Emissions Reduction Program and Monash Health.

It will see the installation of two solar panel systems, which will supply approximately 7.5% of Moorabbin Hospital’s total energy usage.

This project will not only benefit Monash Health, but it will also benefit the community by reducing the strain on the electricity supply to the local area.

The reduction in carbon dioxide emissions annually is equivalent to the emissions of 77 cars driven for one year or 43 million smartphones charged.

The team worked with many other departments to help ensure that the installation and integration of the solar panels into our existing infrastructure runs with minimal impact to clinical operations.

Congratulations to our Engineering team.
