Ward 4B Aviary, Monash Children’s Hospital Clayton, are the STAR Award winners in the ‘In Pursuit of Excellence’ category for Q4 2021.
This category recognises an individual, group or team who have personified our intent to be relentless in the pursuit of excellence. This includes making an outstanding contribution to the experience of our people, patients, or consumers.
Ward 4B Aviary is a 24-bed ward providing adolescent medicine, paediatric rehabilitation, and neurology services. The team support young people with an eating disorder on their road to recovery, which is often a difficult and challenging journey.
The team has been recognised for their ongoing commitment and tireless dedication to promote holistic healthcare outcomes and for achieving significant recovery milestones for their vulnerable patient cohort.
The cycle of re-admission and recovery are unique for each individual affected and is often paired with a sense of hopelessness and emotional distress for the patient and their loved ones.
Operating in a multidisciplinary environment, the team create and review individualised care plans, provide emotional support to the patient and their families, and work collaboratively with our colleagues in community to support the patients’ recovery.
Recently the team celebrated the success of a long-term patient with a complex history, achieving a significant milestone in their recovery.
The team continued to support this patient, by engaging their family, collaborating with inpatient and community services, continuously implementing new strategies and care plans, and adjusting to the patient’s needs to ensure their comfort and safety.
The team would like to give a special acknowledgement to Erin Leonard, Associate Nurse Manager, who was pivotal in supporting this young person and the trust Erin built with the patient is a true reflection of Erin’s integrity, respect, and compassion.
