A big congratulations to Oscar Ridell for winning the Outstanding Care or Service Delivery STAR Award.
The Outstanding Care or Service Delivery Award is given to someone for achieving excellent results in their key performance areas, delivering a consistently high-quality service, and establishing a pattern of continuous performance improvement.
“I feel honoured to receive the award for “Outstanding Care and Service Delivery” as I always aim to promote holistic and responsive patient centred care in my everyday practice,” says Oscar.
Oscar is a Social Worker in the Allied Health Adult Inpatient team, and in the last six months his confidence has grown as a new graduate working across different Emergency Departments and acute wards. Oscar has earned great respect from his colleagues for his professionalism and ongoing commitment to his patients.
He was nominated for this award for managing a very complex elder abuse case. The patient was COVID-positive, from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, and required an interpreter. Oscar followed the patient throughout their admission which included transfers from three different wards across two hospital sites.
Oscar recognised the importance of continuity of care for this patient due to their high level of risk, CALD background, poor health literacy and knowledge of community and safety supports available.
To ensure the best outcomes for this patient, Oscar coordinated with an Elder Abuse Services, Better Place Australia, Police, Orange Door, ACAS, interpreter services, medical, nursing and allied health multidisciplinary team as well as the patient and their extended family.
As a new graduate, Oscar would like to acknowledge the Dandenong Social Work team for providing a supportive environment to develop the knowledge and skills required to manage complex cases.
“I would also like to pay a special acknowledgement to Katrina Frederick (Social Work AHA) who assisted in the particular case behind this STAR award nomination. Katrina showed outstanding support and determination in researching and organising culturally specific supports to promote this patient’s health, wellbeing and independence on discharge.”
Thank you, Oscar, for your outstanding delivery of care!
