Get the flu vaccine facts

Influenza vaccinations are now available for all Monash Health employees. Read the answers to the latest frequently asked questions below:

Is it mandatory for me to get my flu vaccine?

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) states all aged care healthcare workers must receive their flu vaccination by 1 May in order to work within an aged care facility. All other healthcare workers who have face-to-face contact with patients must receive the vaccine by 1 August.

Monash Health recommends that every employee receives the vaccine as anyone can spread the flu. By receiving the vaccine, we protect ourselves, our patients, our colleagues, our families, and our health care system.

Will the drive-in vaccination clinic be available to employees to get their flu shot?

Yes, the drive in vaccination clinic can be utilised by you and your family. However, you will be required to submit the online declaration form.

I have had my flu vaccine but wish to participate in the BCG trial?

This BRACE trial is being led by the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI). Initially, to participate in this trial, you received the vaccine at the same time you received your flu vaccination. However, given the large number of healthcare workers that had already received their vaccine this year, there is an amendment coming out soon, which will allow you to receive the BCG vaccine separately. Further details will be available shortly via coronavirus.monashhealth.org

Can you participate in the BRACE trial if you have already had the BCG vaccination as a kid?

Yes, you can receive the vaccination again if you want to be involved in the trial. Read more details on the BRACE trial here.

Will there be enough flu vaccine for all employees to get vaccinated?

Monash Health has enough of the influenza vaccine to ensure all employees can receive their vaccination.

If you are yet to receive your free vaccination, please visit one of the Infection Prevention Offices at Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong Hospital, and Casey Hospital, Monday – Friday. For more details on mobile rounds, after-hours vaccinations, and contact details, click here.

If you have received your vaccination elsewhere or are not participating in receiving the flu vaccine, you must complete the quick online declaration form.
